Friday Faves – there’s cookies.

If you’ve been keeping track, you’ll know that last week – for the first time in 9 months – there wasn’t a Friday Favorites post.
I’d have fired my lazy ass if it hadn’t been nestled so cozily in my flannel sheets when I realized the mistake and decided you kids would understand.
Being the boss has it’s perks.

Here’s your gif of the week.
It has nothing to do with this post, I just enjoyed it so much that I wanted to share.

And this week I’m slacking, too.
I could blame it on the messy house I should be cleaning right now, the sore throat that feels like I’m swallowing shards of glass that I’ve been enduring for the past 2 days, the cookies I still haven’t baked for my BIL in Afghanistan (those soldiers will be thrilled to get them for New Years, right? Right.), or the presents I promised the Things I’d have wrapped and under the tree for them to pick up and shake by the time they got home from school today.
But the truth is, I don’t really feel like writing much today.
There.
And still not fired.

However, because I know I wouldn’t be able to live with the self-induced guilt if I skipped the Friday Faves post 2 weeks in a row, here’s a few things and moments that have stopped me in my tracks and made me smile this week.

1.  Britney Spears’ reaction on The X Factor last night when one of Simon’s groups made it to the finals –

Good lord that was funny.
I’m just waiting for someone to make a gif of it.  I wish I knew how. If I did, believe you me that is how I’d be spending my day instead of vacuuming and baking and wrapping.
And the funniest part was that she held that expression for like 10 seconds.
How do you really feel, Brit?

2.  Chocolate Pixie Cookies –

When I was making these the other night, I was thinking, why do I only make these easy cookies at Christmastime?  Then they came out of the oven and I ate 6 in about 10 minutes and I remembered.

You can take your peanut-butter-hershey-kiss blossoms and your sugar cookies and your spritz. I’ll take all your chocolate pixies.  They are my favorite today. And yesterday. And tomorrow.

I know a lot of you make them, but I’m gonna share my recipe because mine always turn out so fabulous (that was totally directed at my sister who had several chocolate pixie fails last year so I like to rub it in.  I’m nice like that).

Chocolate Pixies
1/4 cup Butter (I use margarine)
4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
2 cups flour, divided
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder (make sure it isn’t old)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (I do not use nuts in mine…but that’s just our family’s preference)
powdered sugar for rolling

In a small saucepan, melt butter and chocolate over low heat. In large mixing bowl, combine melted chocolate mixture, 1 cup of the flour, granulated sugar, eggs, baking powder and salt.  Beat at medium speed until well mixed.  Stir in remaining cup of flour and nuts (if using).  Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Heat oven to 300°.  Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls; roll in powdered sugar.  Place on parchment lined cookie sheet (or greased if you do not have parchment paper – which you should go immediately to Target or the grocery store and get if you do not because you will forever wonder how you baked without it).  Bake about 15 minutes or until firm to the touch.

3.  Blog support –
Over the past week YMFT has somehow gotten a lot more ‘likes’ on facebook, new twitter followers (I’m coming for you Ashton Kutcher), and I’ve had bloggers who I admire mention my blog and pimp out my posts.  It’s enough to make me feel like the freakin’ Bloggess, I tell ya.  But perhaps the thing that touched me the most this past week was a comment I got on my facebook wall from a lady in Utah who I do not know (and who I’m pretty sure my mother does not know, either, which makes this all the more surprising) who wrote the following:

I am a Utah Grandma who totally loves your blog…You make me smile out loud…..

And it made. my. day.
So thank you, Bev.  Your comment made me smile from ear to ear (and are you sure you don’t know my mother??).

And to all of the faithful readers who read these silly little bits of nonsense of mine – my friends and neighbors, other bloggers, those related to me who know they’ll be tested every few days to see if they really are reading (cough..Husband...cough) – I appreciate every one of you!

Have a great weekend ~ eat some cookies!

Never heard of chocolate pixies & honestly I’m not a big chocolate fan, BUT, those suckers look & sound pretty good, I may have to try.

Do you like brownies? They taste like little brownie bites. And brownies are my favorite so it’s no wonder I love these. Give ’em a try – someone in your family is bound to love them!

I despise peanut butter blossoms… how unAmerican of me… and other Christmas cookies rarely make me swoon… but I think i would love, love those cookies. Thanks for the recipe. Might have to make those today with the Grand Boys.

Britney’s face was hysterical! Though, I’m sure my face probably looked like that too! I wasn’t expecting that as the result! Britney is awesome, but I’m #TeamTate
