Friday Favorites – A Week of Deadly Sins.

I have to admit, when I sat down to write this post I had nothing to write about.
Which, sure, isn’t all that unusual for a Friday Favorites post. I mean, now that I have approximately 70 of these weekly posts under my belt, finding new Favorites sometimes gets to be more than a little tricky.

And then tonight (yes, I’m writing this on Thursday night, which hopefully doesn’t throw you) I had this after I’d gone out to dinner and eaten waay more fries than I should have ⬇⬇.

GLUTTONY

Now, in my defense, I didn’t buy it.
Thing 1’s friend brought it over.
It’s actually an amusing little story.

Last night (which was Wednesday — stay with me here, people) the friend texted and asked if there was anything she could bring over tomorrow night since she was coming to sleep over (and by “tomorrow” I mean Thursday, which is tonight…or yesterday depending on how you wanna play this).

Thing 1:
FRIEND wants to know if there’s anything she can bring over tomorrow night?
Thing 2: A French Bulldog!
Me: A triple layer chocolate cake!
Husband: Pie!
Me: A sister wife!

So, unbeknownst to us, Thing 1 texted all our answers back to her friend.
Fast Forward to tonight, when said friend arrived…with a quadruple layered chocolate cake…and, after we all had a good laugh, was hereby declared FAVORITE #1 for the week (even if she didn’t bring  a sister wife).

But since (like I mentioned) I’d already eaten far too much tonight, I was feeling especially Gluttonous after consuming 1/2 3/4 7/8 of a small average largish piece of that unbelievably delicious cake.
Which I had to wash down, of course, with a large glass (two) of cold milk Shiraz.

And it got me thinking of my week.
I’ve already been Gluttonous a few times (Movie popcorn…P.F. Chang’s…far too much wine…).
Been a multiple ‘deadly sin’ violator, if you will.
What other deadly sins might I have broken this week?
And did I enjoy violating them as much as I enjoyed this one??
And Bam! justlikethat, the Favorites list for this week wrote itself.

2. GREED –
My new iPhone case.

Did I need a new iPhone case?
Nope. I have one from last summer that I still love.
But this one was a GREEN OWL for cryin’ out loud, and was only $6 at H&M, so you’re damn right I needed it.

Fancy oil and Balsamic.

Tonight Husband and I went out to dinner at one of our favorite joints in the picturesque little lake town about 15 min. from us (no, not at the happy place lake, a different lake. Remember, we live in Minnesota — there are 10,000 of them).  Since the wait was half an hour, we took a stroll along the lovely street along the lake which is full of adorable little shops…and a brand new OIL and VINEGAR TASTING BAR.
Wait, what??
Yeah, we walked by and this is what I saw.

I dragged Husband in because, while cute, I thought it was totally ridiculous.
And 15 minutes later I was hooked (and oily).
You guys, have you ever done a shot of olive oil?
No?
Yeah, me neither, but apparently you’re supposed to have two of them a day.
Who knew (except for Dr. Oz)?
Now, I’m certainly not going to be doing daily shots of olive oil anytime soon (it doesn’t mix well with vodka), but the infused oils are fabulous for sautéing and tossing in pasta and using to dip crusty bread into.
And most of you know I’m no cook, so for me to get excited about this says a lot.
This place has like 20 different flavors of pure olive oils and about 15 flavors of Balsamic Vinegars (Dark chocolate over raspberries, anyone?), and you can taste all of them.
We got a bottle of Tuscan Herb Olive Oil for pastas and veggies, and basic Balsamic for salads and bruschetta.
And bonus! Mix them together with some parmesan for a delectable dipping concoction for a baguette, which in my house is often called “dinner”.
It wasn’t pricey by any means, and when the bottle is empty, you just wash it out and bring it back for a refill.
Did I need fancy infused oils to aid in my gluttony?
No.
Did I want fancy oils to aid in my gluttony?
The fact that I’ll be making an herbed asiago bruschetta pasta salad this weekend should answer that question.

3. Envy –

I learned this week that Judge Judy makes 47 million dollars a year.
Forty seven million dollars.
Judge Judy Envy.
Obviously.

4. Sloth –
One of my definite weekly daily Favorites is my late afternoon nap.
Shut up.
Hey, I know all of you with small children are breaking deadly sin #3 on this list right now (and perhaps #5 as well) but listen, I’ve been in your shoes, sister. I’ve paid my dues…done my time with toddlers and tantrums.
And now I’m gonna nap in peace and not feel guilty about it.
Your day will come.
It will.
And I know — I know — I’m fortunate to be able to be at home and have the luxury of a cat nap most days and that many, many mamas are busting their bones at a 9-5 job and can only dream of a nap…and I applaud those women. I do.
I just may be applauding while lying prone on my napping couch with my sweet kitty on my lap.

5. Wrath –
I learned this week that Judge Judy makes 47 million dollars a year.
Forty seven million dollars.
Judge Judy Wrath.
Obviously.

6. Lust –

My mother and my children read this blog, so I cannot elaborate.
Let’s just say it was broken and leave it at that.

7. Pride –

I wrote some stuff that I liked this week.
That I was proud of.
There, I said it.

On Monday I wrote my third letter to ass-hat parents. Seriously, you guys, I’m getting tired of this. Am I proud that my kids aren’t gigantic misbehaving bonewads and disrespectful urchins?
You bet.
Am I in violation of sin #5 on this list because of parents who let their kids act like that?
PROUDLY so.

Tuesday I was over on Mamapedia.com telling you what I thought about Ashton Kutcher’s speech at the Teen Choice Awards. It was my fifth piece published on Mamapedia, and I’m pretty proud of the fact that, besides on this little blog, I have my words floating around out there on the interwebs.
If you missed it, you can read it right >>HERE<<.
Pride violation #2. Damn it.

Wednesday I told hundreds of you about How my Kids Spent Their Summer Vacation.
Proud?
Well, if you read it you can probably answer that one for me.

So there ya go.
The 7 Deadly Sins — all broken this week by me.

It was a great week.

Every single time I watch the Ashton Kutcher video I smile. And then I watch it again. Love that you shared it with the world this week…in fact, I am pretty sure that I saw it because of you! :)-Ashley

I heard about Judge Judy too! I would not think she made that much just for being a you know what!

Um. This is fabulous. I loved it even before I saw Brad’s Seven face, and then I started to swoon…lust, even. Fab iPhone case, btw. Nap; you’ve paid your dues, but I feel envy creeping in, so I’m ending here 🙂
