An embarrassment of riches

You guys, I have more good news.

It’s been a bit of an embarrassment of riches around here over the past month what with the new book and the new blog design and home, and I now I have even more news that I’ve been dying to share with all of you that I haven’t been able to…until now.

Big, exciting news.
Like huge.

This has been me on the INSIDE –

elane
Yet on the outside I’ve been all, “whatevs.”

nbd

Cool as a cucumber.

Nah, I’m totally lying.

There may or may not have been Xanax involved to keep me from doing this –

Once you hear what it is you might be concerned about me for keeping it to myself for so long. So here goes…finally untying the Zeppelin knot from the gag…

I’m writing for Entertainment Weekly (dot) com.

Do not refresh your browser, you read that right.

I’m writing for ENTERTAINMENT freakin’ WEEKLY (dot) com.

If you’ve been hanging out with me for long you must know that I’ve been pinching myself — hard — for the past couple of months since I found out. While it’s true that Us and People are weeklies that I don’t miss, Entertainment Weekly has been my bible for the past 10 years and is the one I consider the most legit (and respected) of the weeklies.

Here’s what’s happenin’ ~
There’s a new blog on EW.com called “The Community” that is written by contributors (like me!) and editors about shows that we’re obsessed with. It’s a place for other superfans to chat and discuss and engage.

Guess what I’m writing about?

Screenshot 2014-03-25 19.03.57

Only my favorite show ever.

I know a lot of you are also fans, so make sure and check out community.ew.com and search for “Parenthood” in the search box on the right and catch up on all my latest recaps and opinions (like how I really feel about Joel).

In two weeks I’ll start covering this guy (who’s obviously pretty excited about it) –

FALLONhappydance

It’s funny how things happen.
One day your mark of true excitement is when there’s fresh popcorn at Target and the next you’re writing for ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY.

fainting

Oh, and here’s the best part.
The way EW originally found me?
By searching “The Bachelor” and ending up at my blog.
I always knew the hours I’ve given myself to that show weren’t for naught.

And guess who writes his blog for EW?

harrison

We’re practically colleagues now.
Whatever.

Head on over to The Community and let me know what you think! Discuss! Engage!
(There’s a lot of other fun shows over there to catch up on besides “Parenthood.”)

And now, since my husband has just appeared with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate, it looks like I’m out…but because you’re all my closest friends I wanted to let you know first!

I promise I’ll go away now.

Cheers!

Wow! Congrats!!! Can you hook me up with Harrison? Since you and him are now bff’s?!

ABsolutely! AFTER I keep him to myself for an hour…or two. 😉

You’ve earned all of the riches coming your way!!! So excited for you! If you MUST come to NY to see Jimmy Fallon, I should probably head up from Philly so you don’t have to drink an appletini all by yourself in the Big Apple. This is what internet friends do for each other.

    • Michelle on March 26, 2014 at 3:48 am

Oh, believe me, it’s in the works (at least in my imagination). And if it ever happens? DONE. You, me, Appletinis. Maybe Jimmy will even join us. Thank you!

ERMEHGERD!! So awesome! Hey, I just clicked on that link so I can like ALL THE THINGS and it didn’t work… probably user error. But CONGRATS! Love the new blog look, too.

I feel as if I had a little something to do with this, since I was your test guinea pig for Google+ Hangout. Do I get to share an appletini with you and Bethany???

I’m so freaking excited for you!!! Congrats!!

    • Michelle on March 26, 2014 at 12:06 pm

Obviously! You get to sit on his lap. Thanks, my friend! xo

Amazing! I’ve subscribed to EW for decades (one of my proudest days was when they printed a letter of mine… about Pulp Fiction when it was in theaters, so that tells you how long I’ve been reading it!). I don’t go there online as much, so please let us know when your columns are up, so I will check it out!

OMG this is so amazing – Congrats… now I will have to start watching Parenthood if you are recapping! Will you be covering Jimmy every night?? He is also awesome! So well deserved.

    • Michelle on March 26, 2014 at 1:42 pm

Thank you so much! There’s a lot of other fun shows that are covered on the site as well (and more will be added every week) so make sure to check it out! As for my man Jimmy, I’ll just be posting once a week about something awesome he did (will be hard to choose!), etc. Look for those in a couple of weeks. I’ll make sure and let you know!

I love me some Parenthood, but Jimmy…AHHHHH, splat! I can’t believe you are his gal. You are almost his assistant. His writer! That’s what you are – you write for Jimmy Fallon!! OK “for” is not the right word, but I think you are a ROCKSTAR and am so proud of you!

  14. Kate (Shakespeare's Mom) on March 26, 2014 at 6:33 pm

Congratulations on all of your exciting news! I love your new blog design by the way – it’s a perfect splash of color during this infernal-eternal-freaking-cold winter.

Congratulations, Michelle! That is AWESOME news! I’m so happy for you and can’t wait to read your EW stuff, as well!

Congrats! I had applied to be a contributor as well. I had been pretty much jumping every time I heard the ding of my email since October, hoping for good news. After getting a few encouraging emails, I was crushed to finally find out I wasn’t one of the ones selected. EW is my favorite publication of all time (I’ve been subscribing since high school), and it was always a dream of mine to write for them. I hope to someday get another opportunity but for now, I’m hoping to see some really great new content from my favorite entertainment website. Also, I have had a crush on Jimmy Fallon since I was probably 13 and so I’m super jeals about that as well 🙂 Good luck with everything! I will definitely be reading 🙂

Thank you so much! And The Community will hopefully keep expanding and adding new contributors as it gets going so keep watching the site for news. Don’t give up! 🙂
