Friday faves – She’s my favorite today.

Apologies for the blurry photos. This post was written before I switched sites and the pictures didn’t transfer well. If you want to see them clearly, you’ll have to stop by sometime.

This week’s favorites list is short.
And blond.
With killer legs and a powerful voice.

And last night she Blew. Us. Away.

If you’ve been paying any sort of attention, you know she’s my favorite.
Two years ago we saw her in Phoenix.
And yes, I do live in Minnesota.
And yes, I did fly to Phoenix to see Carrie Underwood.
She wasn’t coming to Minneapolis – what else did you expect me to do?
Sure, Husband had a conference in Phoenix that week so it worked out nicely, but don’t think I wouldn’t have flown to Chicago or Pittsburgh if that hadn’t been an option.

But last night, after 2 long years and one awesome album, she was back.
And this time I (thankfully) didn’t have to endure air travel to get to her.

You know that as a rule I do not enjoy posting photos of myself on this blog. But since we so rarely clean up, this time I made an exception.

Sidenote: If you read yesterday’s post, you may wonder why those pumpkins behind me are intact.
I may or may not have sprayed them with bug spray and spray adhesive (it was all I could find).
I’m expecting to find little poisoned squirrels stuck to my pumpkins later today.

But back to Carrie.
Before the show, we got a few pics with her, and as you can see, she’s also Husband’s favorite.

And for the record, he wasn’t trying to grab her boob.  It was a greenscreen so we had to just pretend we could see her and he meant  to have one hand on her shoulder and one around her waist. At least that’s the story he’s sticking with.

Opening act: Hunter Hayes.  Adorable. Crazy talented.  Did I say adorable?

If things don’t work out for some reason between Thing 1 and any of the boys from One Direction, I’m gonna see if I can get him her number.

Since Carrie still hadn’t retweeted me or answered any of my emails by show time, I guessed she wasn’t going to invite me backstage for a pre-party, so I gave in, gave up, got a small beverage and made my way down to my seat like the rest of the commoners who are not BFFs with her.

I had promised myself I’d watch more of the show with my eyes this time instead of with my camera.
I lied.

{pc: me again}

Outfit #1.  Showin’ off the legs (always).  Not sure what kind of a look she was going for here with the peacock feathers and industrial belt and tiny finger covers, but I liked it.  And I’m also thinkin’ those spiky bracelets could impale a small squirrel. Hold on while I go make a few…

{…and again}

Outfit #2.  LOVED.  She’s all about the mini fingerless gloves this time, apparently, which somehow works for her. But then again, everything does.

The photo on lower right is her singing a duet with a virtual Brad Paisley. At the last concert she sang a duet with a virtual Randy Travis. Husband thought it’d have been hilarious if a virtual drunk and naked Randy Travis showed up and crashed the duet with the virtual Brad Paisley.  I don’t think Carrie would laugh.  At all.

This was after a stranger helped him find some clothes. Oh, Randy. We still love you. {photo credit: not me. definitely not me}

Then she did something pretty cool. She flew.
She and the band jumped onto a lucite platform (that looked like the porch of a cabin in Tennessee – even her mic stand was supposed to be a branch) and slowly floated and spun over the crowd and sang 6 – six -songs. Very cool to do for all the people in the back. Nice girl, that Carrie Underwood.

This was my favorite look. In other news, I just ordered a long fringed vest from Zappos.

The last song she sang on the float was “One Way Ticket” — which is totally Caribbean and carefree — so we had a little party.

One thing I’ve always loved about Carrie is that she doesn’t really constrict herself solely to traditional country music.
Here she is, rockin’ hard, to Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion.”

I do love the ‘fierce‘ Carrie.
So does Husband, as he has told me over and over and over….

The night ended with a tornado.  And, of course, confetti. Lots and lots of confetti.
The girl certainly knows how to go out with a blast.
Fabulous, fun show … and an Unbelievable voice.
I sang every word to every song – loudly (apologies to the girl in Section 130 Row C with the long hair that I was sitting next to).
We danced and clapped and screamed and basically made fools out of our 43 year old selves.
…and were very much BLOWN AWAY.

    Thank you for sharing! Carrie is one country artist I still haven’t seen live! I loved your Randy Travis commentary…too funny! Oh, and Hunter Hayes…I have a huge crush and would totally track him down if he weren’t a wee bit too young for me!

    I saw Carrie last year on labor day weekend at Mystic Lake Casino. Not sure if that’s around your where abouts. She did mention on stage that she wasn’t expecting it to be quite so cold and she was glad she happened to have ONE sweater on her bus. Maybe the cold scared her to phoenix.

  8. […] stupid magazine that I only bought because it had Carrie Underwood on the cover (and you know how I feel about HER).But I did manage to read one book and start […]
